Unique Identification Number(UIN) to counter corruption
India today is rattled with the deeds of corruption and malfunctioning of the system. The history of corruption dates back from ages before. Various factors determine the intensity and the need to go corrupt. Greed being the most important factor. A human nature is to be restless and be never satisfied. The thirst to own wealth and strive to achieve more makes every human compete with his fellow mate. Factors like reputation and power thus associated with wealth gets added to the list. India today is in no position to preach people the ways to train the human mind to restrain from the greed.
The only way to counter this is to monitor and create a transparent system that would bring the deeds of every person to the visibility of the system. The system could be made efficient by giving it the tools to prevention of corruption.
One such tool could be the method of assigning an Unique Identification Number to every citizen. Which is already in place. The ways in which it can be used are immense. What this method could do is nothing short than wonders in efforts to stop corruption at its roots.
Every person who is associated with a UIN should be identified by the government and be able to track his records and the properties owned by him. A person while buying land, vehicle, house, or any other property could be dealt with mandating the deal with a mention of UIN in all the documents to be signed on. For instance a man trying to buy a land and trying to register it, the document should contain the UIN column and must be made required. This way a person's property details would be known to the government. The hit here could be the fact that the corrupt minds work faster in corruption. They could register the properties in the name of their relatives. UIN helps to relate that person to another person with the details tracked with UIN. This way a person who might not be able to own land and if a property is being registered in his name it can be cross verified and the culprit be tracked.
Having A UIN from birth and updating his profile at every regular interval of a fixed period of years would also help in keeping track of his activities in various companies. This way another evil, the terrorism, India is facing today could be monitored to an extent.
The implementation could take a while before it comes onto action, as the sown seeds of today could well be the fruitful trees tomorrow.
